Etihad launches Zurich-Leipzig service, passenger cargo rewards
ETIHAD Cargo is launching a promotional cargo service whereby UAE residents who book personal cargo shipments can earn guest miles and tier miles.
Its Etihad Regional unit has also commenced flights between Zurich, and Leipzig operated by a 50-seat Saab 2000 aircraft.
This is the carrier's second route launch to Germany from Switzerland, following the start of a Geneva-Stuttgart operation in February. The airline already flies from Leipzig to Amsterdam and Paris, reported Emirates 24/7 Business from Dubai.
Vice chairman designate of Etihad Regional Peter Baumgartner said: "The new service demonstrates Etihad Regional's strategy to continue building a strong regional network linking European cities and towns, which also connect to the global network of our partners, including Etihad Airways and airberlin."
As for the new cargo initiative it is aimed at rewarding customers who send personal effects by air cargo, including furniture, automobiles, household objects, or even pets.
Guest miles are earned based on the type of shipment and route flown. The miles earned for flights and upgrades can be redeemed, or an item can be selected from the guest rewards shop.
Said strategy officer Kevin Knight: "We are one of the few airlines in the world who now offer such a service, and we look forward to unveiling further innovations in the future."
